Al-Ahly's emerging young talent draws attention from European clubs.

Egyptian football giants Al-Ahly have always been known for their youth academy, producing some of the country’s greatest talents, such as Mohamed Aboutrika and Wael Gomaa. And this has continued with their latest crop of young talent, who have been turning heads not only in Africa but in Europe as well.

One of the most notable names is Ahmed Abdelkader “Boksha”, who is just 19 years old but has already made a name for himself playing for Al-Ahly’s first team. He has played both as a central midfielder and a right-back, and his versatility has caught the eye of several European clubs.

Boksha was scouted by Italian champions Inter Milan during Al-Ahly’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in February 2021. According to reports, Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, was impressed with Boksha’s performance in the tournament and is closely monitoring his progress.

Another Al-Ahly youngster that has caught the attention of European clubs is Nasser Maher, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder. Maher was said to be on the radar of French outfit Lyon, who had reportedly sent scouts to watch him play in the Egyptian Premier League.

Maher has been in scintillating form this season, scoring three goals and providing eight assists in 18 league matches. He was also instrumental in Al-Ahly’s CAF Champions League triumph in 2020, scoring the crucial away goal against Wydad Casablanca in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, there are reports that English Premier League side Aston Villa are interested in signing Ramadan Sobhi, who started his career at Al-Ahly before moving to English football in 2016. Sobhi, who is still only 24, has been in good form for his current club, Pyramids FC, and his experience in European football could be an asset for Villa.

Al-Ahly’s reputation for developing young talent has not gone unnoticed by European clubs, and it seems that the Egyptian champions have another crop of exciting players who could make the move to Europe in the near future. With the right guidance and opportunities, Boksha, Maher, and the rest of Al-Ahly’s young stars could follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and become global stars.
